Brooklyn native comedian Vernon Payne details his life as a comedian and struggles with the depression that comes with it, how the demons of perceived failure haunt his mind, and how he struggles with quitting the art form. This show looks at a process of self-acceptance through the lens of storytelling and a behind-the-scenes look at the mind of a comic and artist. Vernon has performed all over NYC and the northeast, written for comic books and has written 2 other solo shows, Teenage Love and Hilariously Mediocre, that were part of the Emerging Artists Festival.
Joining Vernon and host Jude Treder-Wolff for the post-show discussion are:
Jaye McBride, a funny, smart and proudly transgender comedian, one of the first to work on a national level. She performs both as a headliner and sharing the stage with comedy guests like Gilbert Gottfried, Jim Norton and Bobcat Goldthwait. In addition to numerous comedy festivals, Jaye recently made her television debut on the Comedy Cellar's This Week At The Comedy Cellar. She is originally from upstate NY but now lives in Brooklyn.
Alexis Lambright, LCSW, a social worker, performer, comedy writer and director. You can see her perform monthly with Entirely From Memory at LIttlefield in Brooklyn as well as with the Story Pirates (both shows are not virtual!)
